Mears marathon runner raises vital funds for spinal research

WAYNEmearsmara Dale, 39, from Tilbury Road in Thurrock, Essex, completed the London
Marathon in 4 hours, 6 minutes and 33 seconds.

Wayne, a plumber who has worked for Mears in Thurrock for eight years
raised £1,800 for Spinal Research. Spinal Research is the UK’s leading
charity funding medical research around the world to develop reliable
treatments for paralysis caused by a broken back or neck.

Mears staff based in Thurrock also supported Wayne’s efforts by completing
their own mini marathon. This involved running around the lakeside grounds
and they raised over £50 in donations.

Wayne said:” I decided to run the marathon in memory of a colleague I
worked with at Mears who passed away due to a spinal injury. It was a real
challenge as although I ran the London Marathon when I was 18 I have not
done one since. I trained three to four times a week and I’m really pleased
with my time as I managed to run it faster time than the average which is 4
hours and 20 minutes.”
