THE Sixth Form form at the Gateway Academy is set to close in July.
It is understood that the Tilbury school has struggled to compete with Palmer’s College, South Essex College and Harris Academy.
Having said that, the numbers have been growing steadily with 68 students in sixth form.
The school will join forces with a number of sixth form colleges in signposting students to available courses around the borough.
I understand that the VIth Form will continue for it’s existing students from September but will not admit any new students for the new academic year. Market forces. Hathaway Academy please take note. If Gateway cannot make it work, neither will you.
So the cracks are starting to appear at The Gateway…and I’m not just talking about the masonry, as the Academy begins to sink into the mud on the marshland!
I doubt whether Ms Bull (ex-Principle) who left at short notice recently, will be the only one to jump ship! Watch this space!
