Thurrock’s “Simply the Breast” Ladies visit the House of Lords

THEIR FUNDRAISING campaigns have been amazing and so it was no surprise that the Thurrock “Simply the Breast” ladies were invited to the House of Lords recently.

They are a group of Thurrock ladies who have all been affected personally or has had a close relative or friend affected by breast cancer.

Their chairperson Andrea Nunnery set up the volunteer group in January. Their mission is to raise as much money whilst also raising awareness to help fund research into life saving projects to find a cure for breast cancer.

A spokesperson said: “We were recently invited to the House of Lords for an exciting and prestigious awards ceremony, where we met scientists and doctors who are working on projects funded by BCC.

“It was great to see how the money raised is used and the progress being made.

“We were also nominated for “New Regional Group of the Year” and our chairperson nominated for “Regional Group Member of the Year” which was absolutely fantastic for us!”

So far they have raised £2833 from a coffee and shopping money selling teas and cakes with various stalls and a raffle raising £1500. A ladies burlesque night hosted by Keri Grahame of Diamonte Dolls who appeared on BGT. This event included a
burlesque workshop and a raffle and raised £1046.

The remainder of the money raised has been through two members running the Electric run at Wembley, “no make up selfies” through social media sites, where many Thurrock women participated and donated to their exclusive text message.

There are lots of exciting events coming up, a barn dance, a 20/20 charity cricket match with everyone welcome, no entry fee & lots of refreshments, a zumbathon, a stall at Horndon Feast & Fayre where we will be holding a prize draw, Horndon 10k and the 26 mile London Trekathon. They still have spaces for runners/walkers at both these events, so please get in touch if you’re interested.

Kushi Indian Restaurant of Chafford Hundred recently contacted us to ask how they could get involved. Together they have arranged an Elvis tribute night where Kushi will provide a set menu and there will also be a raffle, all monies taken on this night will be donated by Kushi to BCC.

The finale to this year will be a Charity Ball which is being held on Friday 31st October at The Regent in Stanford-le-Hope during breast awareness month – details will follow!

Their spokesperson concluded: “Our biggest challenge this year will be our aim to “Turn Thurrock Pink” during the month of October.
