Thurrock CC 1st XI 259-5
By Bill West
THURROCK made it three wins out of three with a five wicket win away at Little Baddow.
The hosts batted first and reached a competitive score of 258 from their 45 overs thanks mainly to an 87 by Andy Harris. Rob Neal picked up three wickets from six overs for the visitors, but the pick of the bowlers were Clarke Wren (2-26) and Daniel Laird (1-26) – they bowled 12 overs each and had an outstanding nine maidens between them. Both shone when their fellow bowlers struggled.
In reply, Thurrock needed a couple of batsmen to hit substantial knocks, and two in particular stood up to the plate. Opener Umar Ayub top scored with 87 and Laird continued his brilliant form with the bat with 85. Despite the tricky total, the visitors easily chased it down with more than ten overs to spare.
Thurrock now sit top of the T Rippon Mid-Essex Premier Division and are 15 points clear of nearest challengers Aythorpe Roding.
