Thurrock Sports Council AGM and May Meeting.

IN his end of year report, chairman Les Hughes stated that during the year the Sports Council had supported the Thurrock sports scene enabling many to advance their chosen activity. £7500 has been given to sports clubs during the year.

Concerns has been raised in respect of grass root facilities and the effect current building developments have. More interest is needed from local sports as facility provision will eventually affect even the most insular of sports. The greater the input we can attract the better for Thurrock sport. Regular meeting attendees and some specific people were thanked by the chairman. The vice chairman and secretary resigned and replacements not found yet.

Most of the regular meeting was spent discussing how to take the Sports Council forward and make it more proactive and effective. No decisions were finalised and input from Thurrock sports people would be welcome.

Anyone keen to promote sport in Thurrock through the Sports Council is welcome to join our July meeting at the Civic Offices or email thurrocksportscouncil@hotmail.co.uk

One grant was made at the meeting to Thurrock Hockey Club for coaching expenses.
