Thurrock’s unbeaten start to the season continued with a 38-run win at Aythorpe Roding.
An outstanding 100 not out from Daniel Laird helped the visitors post 226 from their 45 overs. Laird’s fine innings only came from 105 balls and contained 11 fours and one six. Laird was watchful to start with as his 50 came off 72 balls but he accelerated towards the end and reached his century only 33 balls later. Nick Henry also chipped in with some valuable runs with a patient 51 from 72 deliveries. J Grant was by far the best bowler for the hosts, picking up 5-47 from his 12 overs.
In reply, Aythorpe Roding looked well set to chase down the target with the score on 133-3, but the hosts lost 7 wickets for 55 runs to eventually finish 188 all out. Umaad Sultan excelled with the ball once again this season with 4-46, while Clarke Wren (3-32) and Andrew Hills (1-22) picked up valuable wickets and were very economical.
Thurrock remain top of the Premier Division with a healthy 22-point advantage over Old Chelmsfordians.
