Thurrock CC 1st XI 184-10
Springfield CC 1st XI 290-2
Thurrock’s 1st XI fell to their first defeat of the season at home to Springfield by 106 runs.
On a good pitch, the visitors batted first and smashed a huge total of 290 for the loss of just two wickets.
Opener James Latimer-Jones made a fine 81 and Manpreet Singh hit an incredible 91 not out from just 48 balls containing five big sixes.
It was always going to be a tough task for the hosts to continue their 100% winning start to the campaign and the reply didn’t get off to the best of starts with Umar Ayub getting caught without troubling the scorers in the first over. Mark O’Neill top-scored with a well-made 46 while there were other good knocks from Danny Crow (35) Matt Hills (34) and Clarke Wren (19) but unfortunately no-one kicked on to get a substantial score. In the end the home side fell well short.
Thurrock have slipped to 2nd in the Premier Division but are only one point behind Old Chelmsfordians.
