THERE were angry and upset scenes at the weekend after demolition work began at the premises next to St Peter and St Paul church in Grays.
There has been many a twist and tale in the saga of 76 High Street and this looks like another turn.
According to reports, there was a number of events at the weekend, including a wedding and sunday services that were hindered due to demolition work taking place.
According to a church source, workers did encroach on church land and obstruct the footpath.
Those who know the area will know that access to the church is gained through a very narrow footpath.
Events could come to a head this afternoon (Monday) as there is a funeral set to take place.
YT has spoken to the rev. Darren Barlow who told us that he is consulting with the legal team from the diocese.
There has been a degree of uncertainty as to who is the actual property developer, applicant, person in charge of 76 High Street.
YT attempted to make contact with Thurrock businessman, Steve Dhillon, whom we understood is an integral part of the development. But he had not returned our call at the time of publication.
