Hatfield Peverel 1st XI 187-10
Thurrock CC 1st XI 152-10
A LAST-wicket 71-run partnership by Matt Hills and Umaad Sultan was all in vain as Thurrock narrowly lost to Hatfield Peverel by 35 runs.
The home side batted first and were looking in a good position for a total of over 200 with the score on 121-4, but collapsed and were bowled out for 187. Danny McIntyre made 61 from 70 balls while Clarke Wren picked up 4-47 for the visitors.
In pursuit of the total, Thurrock got off to a poor start and kept losing wickets at regular intervals, eventually ending up in a perilous position of 81-9 after 26 overs. Last man Sultan joined Hills in the middle and put on a terrific stand, but unfortunately fell short. Hills was left stranded on 58 not out from 69 balls in his near two-hour stay at the crease, which included four maximums.
Thurrock are now fourth in the T Rippon Premier Division, but are only five points behind top of the table Great Baddow.
