Private carers invited to special workshop

PEOPLE who care for children privately are being advised about a special workshop next month.

The national Private Fostering week starts on Monday, 7 July, and Thurrock Council’s free workshop will be on the Friday – 11 July – at the Culver Centre in Daiglen Drive. South Ockendon, from 9.30am to 11am.

It aims to educate people about private fostering and what it means.

Portfolio holder for children’s services, Cllr Bukky Okunade, said: “Many children find themselves in a private fostering situation, where a child aged 16 (or 18 if disabled) lives with someone other than their parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle or sibling. If this is the case for 28 days or more, they are being privately fostered.”

Cllr Okunade added, “The council has responsibilities over the care of all children in the borough and needs to know about private fostering arrangements.”

To book a place at the workshop, or to notify the council of a private fostering arrangement, call 01375 652615 or e-mail
