AT a visit to the Willow Garden Day Nursery (WGDN) in Chadwell,St Mary Polly Billington said: “It’s fantastic to see good facilities like this where children are happy and their parents can be confident they are safe. But we know there simply isn’t enough help with looking after children for working parents in Thurrock.

And parents really struggle with the cost too. That’s why I am calling for 25 hours free childcare a week for 3 and 4 year olds whose parents are working. That would benefit 1500 children in the Thurrock constituency. So many parents tell me they struggle to juggle work and family responsibilities because of cost and shortage of places. We need some inventive answers to this problem: so that’s why I am asking all parents in Thurrock to help me find some new solutions for hard-pressed mums and dads.”

Willow Nursery in Chadwell St Mary is expanding because of demand for its services and will provide care for 2-5 year olds at its new site, Whitmore Hall Day Nursery (WHDN) . Owner Andy Melbourne says: “We have families from across the community coming to our nursery, and are thrilled we can offer spaces to more children, in an environment where they can learn as they play. We know there is a shortage of childcare provision in Thurrock so it’s great that Polly is keen to find solutions that work for Thurrock parents, and will speak up to make them happen.”

  1. I have a shocking revelation for Polly. The vast majority of childcare offered to the public isn’t free. Even if Polly says a future Labour government will make childcare free, it won’t be free.

What she means to say is a future Labour government will take even more money from taxpayers to buy votes from people that they can bribe with other people’s money.

Good luck with your voluntary army of child carers of the future Polly. Perhaps you will find some benefactors that will provide premises for free as well.

It’s all free under a future Labour government.

  2. This is more propaganda from the Labour press service, as Steven has said, it wont be free, it will be paid for by tax payers, it is like Labour place “FREE” in front of everything to make it more marketable when they know it will cost the economy more money, where will they find the staff to work in these nurseries and will they be low paid workers to keep the costs down.

It is like the other idea that came out about the school day being extended to i believe 10hours, who is going to staff these hours and then spend the remainder of the day doing planning and paperwork, I am sure these politicians dont live in the real world

  3. The ironic thing about Polly’s free childcare is that it is probably the children that receive the free childcare that will end up paying for the free childcare through all of the additional borrowing that the Labour party will tie future generations into to pay for their jam today policies.

So desperate are they to achieve their own personal goals of being MP’s and government ministers, they will do and say anything to achieve it regardless of who pays for it in the future. We’re still reaping the rewards of the last 13 years of a Labour government. It is clearly their intention to carry on as before if they get re-elected. God help us.
