Fire in Grain Terminal at the Port of Tilbury

FIRE CREWS are tackling a fire in the conveyor belt of a grain terminal in Tilbury Docks. The incident commander reports that the belt, which measures 150 metres by 10 metres is 20% well alight.

Crews in breathing apparatus are tackling the fire.

Update 15:50hrs: Crews are working to tackle what the incident commander has described as a ‘well developed fire’ on a rubber conveyor belt. Crews in breathing apparatus are fighting the fire.

Update 16:33hrs: The incident commander reports that the fire has been contained to 30% of the conveyor belt. Smoke from the fire is affecting the tower of the grain terminal. Two fire tug boats are being used to douse the flames.

Update 17:16hrs: The fire has now been extinguished. Crews used one main jet three hose reel jets along with two fire tugs and an aerial ladder platform. Crews will remain on scene for some time dealing with hot-spots and turning over and damping down.
