FIRE CREWS used two jets to tackle a blaze involving a stack of mixed rubbish across an area of approximately 60m x 20m and one metre high. Crews arriving at the scene at just after 1pm on Tuesday reported that the stack was 100 per cent alight.

Originally London Fire Brigade crews were sent to the scene as callers raising the alarm identified the fire as being in Rainham, on London’s ground. The address was later confirmed as Aveley in Essex.

The incident was under control by 14:24 hrs. Firefighters remain at the scene, turning over and damping down. The cause is thought to be deliberate.

  1. Was this the same area as the four other fires in May? Perhaps time for CCTV coverage as the area appears to be an arson hotspot.
