Swimming: Thurrock swimmers shine at Essex Champs

SWIMMERS from Thurrock SC participated at this year’s Essex County Championships and demonstrated their strength and depth with great performances from all.

In the 9-10 age group Mide Olajide, Jaheim Konteh, Harrison Jarvis and Jimmy Taylor showed they are one of the strongest 9-10 teams around by winning the 4×50 medley and 4×50 free. Not to be out done, Jenson Hurrell, Harrison Dessoy, Daniel Ajetunmobi and Lukas Antanaitis also made the finals and finished 8th in both events. The 9-10 year old girls also produced some brilliant swimming. Teni Ogunlesi, Lillian Tagg, Freya Bole and Eden Parkin finished 4th in the 4×50 free and 4th in the 4×50 medley team.

Amelia Patterson, Noni Thole, Abigail Taylor, Redd Wade, Ella Allen, Alexa Miles-Stevens also competed in the 9-10 age group and performed exceptionally well

In the 11-12 year old age group, Jamie Speers, James Edgings, Brian Wong and Kieron Harris competed well finishing 4th in the 4×50 team and 8th in the 4×50 medley team. Jack Conroy, Robert Buckley, Josh Ogunlesi and Aaron Lambie achieved best times and competed in both relays. For the girls, Mia Fursedonne, Rebecca West, Eden Astbury and Gracie Mae Martin finished 5th in the 4×50 free team and 4th in the medley – even though 3 of the girls will be in the same age group next year. Tilly Mayes, Rebecca Honeywell, Megan Williams, Abigale Ridgway, Ellie Martin, Radost Milkova, Grace Bell, Somiya Aitmari demonstrated the depth Thurrock SC has and made up an additional two relays in both events. All of the girls were superb.

The BAGCAT relays (swimmers aged 11-14) for the boys consisted of Luke Crofts, Azar Aitmarri, Lewis Cutting and Sam Barella. The lads competed really well, achieving 100m split PBs and finished 4th in the 4×100 freestyle team. They just missed out on a top 8 position in the medley relay. Martine Tran, Ellen Pegram, Mia Fursedonne and Annabel Speers justmissed out on a top 8 position in the 4×100 medley team and swam ell in the freestyle team. All achieved PBs during their splits. Irati Gonzalez-Ruiz, Willow Parkin, Gracie Mae Martin and Bethany Byrne also competed in the BAGCAT relays. Once again, all achieved best times and performed brilliantly.
