POLICE, other emergency services and local authorities are dealing with severe weather conditions in the south east of the county.
YT has had a report of a house struck by lightning in Hall Avenue, Aveley. We understand that fire crews are on the scene.
Heavy rainfall in Southend, Rayleigh and Castle Point districts and Wickford and The village of Ramsden Heath has left some roads impassable with flood water.
Motorists are urged to avoid unnecessary journeys, slow down and drive with caution. There is some flooding in properties on Canvey Island and drivers should drive very slowly in residential areas to ensure they don’t make the problem worse.
Weather conditions are expected to improve in the next few hours.
Firefighters are dealing with numerous flood and weather related calls across the County following thunder, lightning and heavy downpours this afternoon. Canvey is one area particularly affected but calls have also included Southend, Harlow, Aveley, Ongar, and Corringham and resources are stretched.
Incidents range from people stranded in vehicles that are stuck in flood water, cables arcing, hedgerow fires, to a house fire following a lightning strike. ECFRS responds to flood incidents where there is risk to life.
FBU members began their strike at 5pm and until 7pm calls are being covered by working crews.
