THE LEADER of Thurrock Ukip, cllr Robert Ray has announced he is standing down as the leader of Thurrock Ukip.

The Aveley councillor has made the announcement as he is in the middle of court proceedings in relation to a drink-driving allegation.

He denies the charge.

Speaking to YT last night (Friday), cllr Ray said: “I have made the decision for the betterment of all. Ukip has a lot of commitments and I don’t want anything to be a distraction.”

Ukip has not announced who will be leader of their group of six councillors or their growing army of activists throughout the constituency.
