Westcliff 2nd XI – 153 all out
Stanford 2nd XI – 151-9
Westcliff won the toss and batted first
STANFORD 2nd XI took on Westcliff-on-Sea in what turned out to be a thrilling encounter where both teams could have stole victory from the last ball of the game.
Away side Westcliff opted to bat first and got off to a steady start thanks to talented 14-year-old Charlie Lockhart who made a patient 57. He was supported by Matthew Pastfield (29) as they went past 100 for the loss of one wicket. But Stanford found their way back into the game as the Westcliff middle order crumbled. Jack Carter registered his first second team five wicket haul with 5-34 from 11.3 overs and Andrew Love also chipped in with a good 3-38 from his 15 overs to bowl out the visitors for 153.
Although the total was not huge it was always going to be competitive on Stanford’s wicket and the Westcliff bowlers made early inroads. James Humphrys (31) and Alex Ellis (20) got the chase started but it was Mark Knight (30) and 21 not out from Jamie Gray who gave the home side a fighting chance. Needing just three runs to win off the last ball and with Westcliff needing just one wicket the game resulted in a draw as Westcliff skipper James Baker bowled a dot ball. He picked up 2-35 from his 11 overs. Praneet Patel and Colin Hastings also picked up two wickets each.
