August meeting
Dr. Anne Davison gave a very interesting and enlightening talk on ‘Women in Islam’. She has lived amongst Islamic communities and travelled in many Muslim countries.
We learnt about the life of Muhammad and covered issues such as multiple wives, forced and arranged marriages and FGM.
This was followed by an equally enlightening talk by Shereen Mahmood who was born in Essex to parents who moved to England 50 years ago from Pakistan. She talked of the high esteem which women have in Islam and arranged marriages and answered many questions which covered these issues and many more.
A very enjoyable evening was had by all including many visitors from a number of WI groups from the area.
