A LEADING Stanford-le-Hope councillor has thanked all those who have made the restoration of the Stanford war memorial a success.

A ceremony that included both the mayor of Thurrock, cllr Steve Liddiard and a host of other dignitaries was held on Sunday morning (Aug 17th).

    Cllr Shane Hebb said:

"I just wanted to give my heartfelt thanks to the residents and business of Stanford-le-Hope who made this weekend’s war memorial restoration and rededication possible.

"The generosity; the volunteer time; the compassion that everyone showed during this local project was truly remarkable and gives us a reason to be proud Stanford-le-Hopers all year around!

"And to all my friends in the Stanford War Memorial Restoration Fund – it has been an honour working with you to achieve what we have. All of the efforts culminated into Sunday’s rededication; a fitting tribute to those no longer with us, and a testament to how hard you all worked in making it possible. I really am proud to have worked with you.

"Our ‘refreshed’ war memorial is a beacon of Stanford’s community togetherness, and belief in honouring those that served, so we could live our lives freely today".
