Hathaway Academy celebrates "Fantastic improvement" in GCSE results

    THE Hathaway Academy is today celebrating an increase of 4% in its GCSEs 5+ A*-C, including English and maths, results this year; reflecting the hard work by students and staff alike, and the significant progress made by the academy since conversion 12 months ago.

    Key highlights:

    5 A*- C, including English and maths – from 39% in 2013 to 44% this year

    Maths – 64%, up 13.5% increase from 2013

    English – 51% up more than 5% from 2013

    Science – 93.2%

    French – 87.5%

    Performing Arts – 94.4%

    Acting principal, Fatima Rodrigues said: “I am very proud of the achievements of all our students and it is clear that The Hathaway Academy is on the right track. With our commitment to improving our students GCSE results, we have worked extremely hard this year and our results show an upwards trend.

    “We are particularly pleased to see the significant improvement in our maths results up 13.5% from the previous school’s results. Over the next year we will be building on our successes, with more to follow in 2015.”

    Ian Cleland, Chief Executive, Academy Transformation Trust (sponsors of The Hathaway Academy) said: “These results reflect the determination of The Hathaway Academy’s pupils, staff and parents to raise achievements and ensure every pupil realises all they can be. It is fantastic to see how far the academy has come in just a year and in particular, it is rewarding to see such a significant increase in maths A*-C results being achieved.

    “We’ve had some excellent results across The Trust and our family of academies are moving forward. We’re committed to providing an outstanding learning environment for all our pupils and uncovering the potential in everyone.”

    Pupil highlights and key achievers:

    Samuel Agyeman achieved 11 A*/A grades for his GCSEs and an A grade for his Further Maths exam

    Wendy Mach achieved 14 A*- B grades for her GCSEs and an A grade for her A Level Chinese

    Urszula Puchala achieved 11 A*- C grades for her GCSEs, a huge achievement seeing as Urszula started The Hathaway Academy with no English.
