AVELEY secured maximum points at Chadfields in a competitive local derby, where both teams tried to play football. Tilbury made two changes to the line-up with Chico Ramos returning in goal and winger Francis Babalola. Aveley had 4 former Dockers James Marrable, Junior Baker, Danny Francis and Lee Weemes and they all played there part in securing the points.

Aveley had the first effort of a game played in greasy conditions after just 28 seconds when Ramos saved from Elbi.

At the other end Harry Cook was well saved by Marrable on 7 before some good skills from Babalola saw Cutler’s effort deflected wide. On 10 Francis saw his effort brilliantly saved appoint blank range when he looked certain to score. With the game end to end, Carlile flicked over for the home aide before Francis blazed over from 6 yards for Aveley.

On 25 Baker headed over Weemes free kick and at the other end Hunt hit just wide from a Babalola cross.

The deadlock was broken on 29 when a corner by Billy Coyne saw Junior Baker head into the top corner of the net. Just before the break as mistake by Baker almost let in Babalola who went inside on his left foot and dragged his shot wide of the target.

The second half was a quieter affair with the game being played on a heavy pitch due to the heavy rain and Weemes went close early to increase the lead.

Tilbury’s wing play was snuffed out after the break due to the hard work of Marcus Elliott who kept Babalola quiet.

Aveley nearly made it 2 with 12 minutes to go when Nesbitt’s corner was sent in and Baker’s header was just over the bar.

The final 10 minutes was actioned packed and in the last minute Tilbury had their final chance when a ball went over the top to Aldwinckle, but Marrable came to the rescue. Aveley therefore ran out worthy winners.

Credit must also go to the referee and his assistants who kept good control on the game.

Aveley moved up to 6th with the Dockers dropping to 13th.

Tilbury have FA Cup action this Saturday when they travel to Codicote. The winners entertain Aveley or Basildon United in the 1st qualifying round.
