THE POLICE and Crime Commissioner for Essex, Nick Alston has stated that if he was in the position of under-fire PCC for South Yorkshire, Shaun Wright.
There are calls for Mr Wright to resign in the wake of child abuse scandal in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. Mr Wright was a councillor in charge of children services in a key period between 2005 and 2010.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5Live, Mr Alston, speaking in his capacity as chairman of the Board of the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC). said: "Any decision to be made has to be made by the South Yorkshire police and crime panel….but if I was in that position, then I would stand down."
Mr Wright has resigned from the Labour Party but has insisted he will remain police and crime commissioner for South Yorkshire.
