Thurrock Council leader spells out magnitude of cuts and throws down gauntlet to voluntary sector

    THE LEADER of Thurrock Council, cllr John Kent has thrown down the gauntlet to the voluntary sector, as he called for a meeting on the £37 million cuts facing Thurrock Council.

    Cllr Kent was speaking at a meeting of the Labour run cabinet at the civic offices.

    Key members of all the voluntary services were in the gallery led by Kristina Jackson from Thurrock CVS.

    In his speech, which YT filmed, cllr Kent outlined the history of funding for the council over the past decade.

    Deputy leader, cllr Barbara Rice and portfolio holder for communties, cllr Richard Speight also detailed their concerns.
