FORMER Thurrock MP Has taken a side swipe at the ex-head of MI6, Sir John Scarlett.
Sir John has expressed his doubts that Scotland, if it chose to be independent, could run an effective intelligence service.
Andrew Mackinlay, a former member of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee said:
"I find it breathtaking that John Scarlett has the audacity to preach about the superiority of Britain’s so-called "intelligence services " and for him to further claim that an independent Scotland would have inferior ‘intelligence’ .
This arrogant man presided over the most catastrophic and abysmal failure in intelligence, in modern history.
His name is synonymous with the deceit, incompetence and cover up.
Under his stewardship both Parliament and people were deceived about the threat of weapons of mass destruction held by Saddam Hussein.
It’s not smart for the Better Together Campaign to trot out such discredited figures as John Scarlett….in fact, its a big , big mistake!"
