FIRE CREWS tackled a fire involving a flat on the sceond floor of a three storey block. in Brightstone Court, Oakhill Road in Purfleet.
The incident commander reported that the two flats were completely alight. Crews in breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to tackle the fire.
Crews rescued three people from the flats.
Update 20:15hrs:
A full search of the flats has been carried out and crews have said that no one is missing or trapped as a result of this fire. Firefighters continue to tackle the fire.
Update:
The fire was extinguished by 21:26hrs. Crews in breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets and one ground monitor to tackle the fire. A family of three have been left homeless as a result of this fire.
An investigation will be carried out to establish the cause of the fire.
Two adults and a young girl were rescued by firefighters.
Station Officer John Lloyd, incident commander, said: "The mother and father were brought to safety down the stairs while crews got a ladder up to the young girl who was trapped by a window and quickly got her down and out of danger. It is thanks to their quick action that no one has been hurt or killed in this fire.
"Firefighters did an excellent job containing this blaze to the flat where it started. When we arrived we were faced with an already well developed fire which could easily have spread but the action taken by crews not only led to the family being rescued but to the fire being contained."
As of 22:10hrs crews remain at the scene turning over and damping down.
