Stanford RFC weekend round up. 20th & 21st September 2014
Stanford ladies vs. St Francis (away win)
Stanford Sirens lead the way with an emphatic win
Stanford ladies were unstoppable this weekend on their travels taking a well-deserved win 29 -12. The Sirens dominated throughout the pitch with forwards and backs inter linking and showing just what a complete and together team they are. The only down side is that the ref was called away at the last moment and now it is uncertain if the game will be classed as league or friendly. Stanford’s try scorers were; Stephanie Witham (two) Chloe Gouden and Kirsty Moore, with Jessica Chegwidden adding three conversions and one penalty. Final score 12 – 29
Stanford 2s vs. Pegasus 2s (home loss)
Stanford hosted local rivals Pegs but could not find the killer blow to take a home win. Stanford had a good mix of experience and youth but just couldn’t contain the style of play adopted by their visitors. Stanford try scorers were Grant Ferguson and Bradley Wheeler. Stanford’s man of the match was Ashley Downes who put in an outstanding performance at scrum half. Final score 10 – 29
Stanford u16’s vs. Chingford 16’s (away loss)
Always a tough contest between these two sides but Chingford on this occasion got the better of the Stanford team. The game was a hard fought game with Chingford just edging the battle for ball control. Stanford’s try scorers were; Harry Taylor, Jack Cochrane, Nathan Hawkes, Elliot Skarratt and Liam Parrot. Harry Taylor converted try of the tries. Final Score 64 – 31
Stanford u15s vs. Upminster u15s (away loss)
A tough match against a well-established Essex 1 side but despite the loss Stanford put on a very good performance but conceded too many tries from break away runs out of the Upminster half. Stanford’s try scorers were: Joe Duligall who converted his own try. Stanford’s man of the match was Daniel Davidson on his debut appearance. Final score 56 – 7.
Stanford u14s vs. Sudbury u14s (home loss)
A reduced side in numbers Stanford fought a very valiant effort but couldn’t contain their visitors despite some very heroic efforts for the Stanford players, things may have been different with a full squad available better luck next time. Stanford’s try scorers were; Joe Moran and George Whalley Final score 10 – 45.
Stanford u13s vs. Thurrock u13s. (away loss)
The big step up to a full size pitch for Stanford against one of the tipped sides for the 1st division didn’t go to a fairy tale plan. However the Stanford u13s lads gave an outstanding performance in this opening season friendly and the positives that came from this game can only leave the players and coaches feeling good about the coming season, now the team has really seen what it’s like to play on the larger pitch. Stanford’s try scorers was; Harry Green. Final Score 31 – 5.
