THURROCK Hockey Club President, Mrs Glenda Stephens BEM, presented the Jack Petchey Achievement Award to 17 year old Jay Lamb on Saturday. He is photographed with players from the Men’s 3rd and 2nd teams.

The Jack Petchey Award Scheme is not just about rewarding young people but also to show that we value them and listen to them and want to help them take on new challenges.

A club spokesperson said: "Jay has not played with the club for long but shows total commitment to his team and training. Something that really impressed us was that he attended the AGM – something young people don’t often do – and at the end he came to senior members of the committee to give suggestions for how to encourage young players into the club.

"He then worked with the club chairperson, Jacki Milne, on advertising the come and try day to schools. We feel he is a club officer for the future and hope his award will encourage him".
