A successful inaugural AGM for Thurrock CCG

NHS Thurrock CCG Governing body and staff were delighted to be joined by around 50 members of the local community, including representatives from health and social care, the voluntary sector and GPs at their inaugural Annual Council Meeting held on Wednesday 24 September at Civic Hall Blackshots in Grays.

Chair of the CCG, Dr Anand Deshpande kicked off the event by welcoming everyone to the meeting and stressed the importance of events such as this to engage face to face with the people they serve.

He said: “We take very seriously our role as budget holders for the local health services and we want to make sure that the services we commission are right and have local people at the heart.”

“The CCG was thrilled to see so many people who took the time to attend our AGM to learn about our first year as leaders of the local health services and our plans for the immediate future.”

The event kicked off with a presentation from Dr Vaiyapuri Raja, joint chair of the CCG’s Clinical Engagement Group, a forum where Thurrock GPs meet every month to discuss and plan healthcare service delivery. Dr Raja described the role of the CCG and its place in the healthcare system. He also talked about the achievements of the CCG in commissioning services to improve health outcomes for local people.

Other highlights of the evening were the presentation of our Annual Report and Accounts, and a public friendly Our Year booklet, by Ade Olarinde, our Chief Finance Officer. Ade explained that the CCG has met its financial targets in spite of stringent budgets and was in a good financial position for the coming year.

The CCG’s Lay member for Public Involvement and Deputy Chair of the CCG, Len Green, talked about the CCG’s commitment to engaging with the community and encouraged people to attend their Practice’s Patient Groups.

Illustrating their commitment to engage, the CCG took the opportunity to consult with attendees on the Walk in Centre located in Thurrock Health Centre in Grays. The discussions were dynamic and useful and will be added to the wider stakeholder consultations being gathered on the topic.
