Rugby: T Birds take time to get into stride

T-Birds 68 v 5 Cheltenham

STILL struggling to completely integrate new faces, T-Birds are not quite on top form yet, but they still showed a clean pair of heels to a pretty decent Cheltenham outfit who I expect will be top third of the table at the end of the season.

Even though Cheltenham’s pack competed well, Ts 3 Contracted England 7s players showed their class and pace while running the Cheltenham back line ragged.

If Cheltenham filled the midfield, Rachael Burford put Kay Wilson away on the outside and if they defended wider, Scott cut through them with her mazy, jinking trademark runs.

In a 12 try spectacular, the back 3 claimed 8, with Wilson’s personal total hitting 5 and but for a few wayward passes would have been more!!

Foy and new T-Bird Hepper carried hard all day and the Jordan twins tackled everything that moved.

After a 7 try , 39-0, first half which easily secured the bonus point, a small tweak to the pack ensured complete dominance and it was a surprise that Cheltenham not only restricted Ts to 5 scores in the second half and grabbed themselves a well deserved consolation score themselves.

Final score was 68-5.
