South Essex College student bags safety awareness award

STUDENT Ryan McCarthy’s knowledge of the DVLA theory test has bagged him an iPod Nano in a prize draw.

Road safety staff from Thurrock Council’s Travel Thurrock team visited South Essex College’s New Road, Grays, campus during Fresher’s Fair to promote safety awareness and sustainable travel choices.

The team, who are part of the council’s transport department, also quizzed the students on their knowledge of driving test theory. They had to answer all five questions correctly to enter the prize draw.

Ryan, 16, who is studying for a diploma in Public Service and hopes to become a firefighter, was the lucky winner. His entry was picked out at random by Adrian Barritt, Travel Thurrock’s manager who made the presentation on Tuesday (30 September).
