Thurrock Tories question half-a-million rise in legal costs for child protection in Thurrock

THE COUNCILLOR in charge of children services in Thurrock came under a sustained attack at a council meeting for the ‘rocketing" budget for child care.

Question after question came from the Conservative side of the house as they probed the amount of money spent on child protection, child placements and education.

Cllr Barry Johnson questioned why legal costs had risen from £700,000 to £1.2 million. Cllr Andrew Roast described their budget as a "Black Hole".

The Conservative questions begin after seven minutes of the film below.
