HUNDREDS of children and their parents had lots of fun doing craft activities, exploring Grays Library, following treasure trails, listening to stories and meeting some of their favourite characters on Thursday (30 October).
Horrid Henry, the Dinosaur that pooped and the birthday dog Kipper himself were at the library along with Dennis Thompson, a local writer, who read his book The Tale of the Greedy Fish which proved very popular.
It was all thanks to the generosity of intu Lakeside which sponsored the event which was all about how important reading is, even if it is just for ten minutes a day.
Kipper’s birthday party bought to life the characters that are read and enjoyed by so many children and involved Family Learning from the Thurrock Adult Community College and some dedicated young adults, Natayla Catch, Mat Beadle and Hannah Walker who volunteered to help library staff on the day.
In all, 2,790 people visited the event.
