ENCOURAGED by the club’s experienced old hands claim that this is the fastest 10k course in Essex 14 Harriers competed against nearly 600 other runners in the Chelmsford 10k on Sunday afternoon.
However, parts of the course were under water, but the extremely wet conditions didn’t stop the Harriers from paddling to personal bests and medal winning performances.
First home was Keith Willett who pb’d on 54th place with a time of 38m10s, an improvement by half a minute. His fellow V40, Nick Trencher, was 60th in 38m49s equalling his pb. Horndon’s 15 year old, Oliver Mann, chased them all the way to finish 79th in 39m44s.
Other excellent pbs came from Iain Scott 116th in 42m31s, Paul Mitchell 134th in 43m04s. Rob Doyle continued his great come back with a 41m17s performance, 2 minutes better than his Billericay 10k 3 weeks ago.
Jodie Farrell, who has missed most of the year with a painful injury, took a silver medal in the FV45 section – her first individual County medal. On the other hand by contrast Mick Bumstead earned his unpteenth County medal by taking the silver in the MV60 section. Mick’s achilles heel problem struck him at 3k which led to him limping along for the remaining 7k.
Grays based Chris Weyman, running for Morgan Stanley, battled to 16th place in a time of 35m00s.
Other times recorded were: Jason Syrett 40m, Gary Cahill 40m21s, Bernie Johnson 43m14s, Victoria Peacock 45m52s, Pat Dobbs 57m00s.
