THURROCK Council is on the lookout for organisations and people in the borough.

It is seeking nominations from interested bodies and residents to support the commission which was agreed earlier this year following a cross-party task and finish group into fairness in Thurrock.

The Thurrock Fairness Commission will be an independent body examining issues surrounding inequality and helping make Thurrock a fairer place.

Its aims will be to engage with local people, listening to their views and opinions and making sure they are heard by decision-makers.

It will create a set of recommendations to help shape future strategies for public service provision based on evidence and best practice as well as celebrating and promoting positive work that already takes place and encouraging more working relationships between the public, voluntary and business sectors.

Thurrock Council is supporting the nomination process, but the commission will have an independent chair with a background in the voluntary and community sector.

Nominations are also being encouraged from people with an interest and expertise in housing, health, economics, the youth cabinet and disability groups among others.

It is expected to meet around eight times over the coming year, as well as hosting events to find out views of local people.

Commissioner roles voluntary posts with out of pocket expenses such as travel reimbursed.

Nomination packs can be requested via diversity@thurrock/gov.uk, through the council’s website thurrock.gov.uk/fairness, or by calling 01375 652486.
