THE MOTHER of a child murdered in Grays has told BBC Radio 4 of her plans to campaign for internet safety.
Breck Bednar was just fourteen when he was murdered by Lewis Daynes in a flat in Roseberry Road in Grays last February.
Lorin LaFave was speaking to the Today programme on Radio 4.
She said: "Breck used to game on the internet with friends from school and the local community.
"Many of the boys, I knew their families. They all seemed happy.
When I met (Lewis) Daynes on-line, he was quite chatty but I never actually saw his face. He had an avatar I was quite suspicious about.
"I called the police and told them that I felt that Breck was being manipulated and controlled. His ideology was being controlled.
"He would not go to church. I discussed it with him. I started to suspect that Daynes was grooming him.
"The police did not seem very interactive. I did not get any feedback. I was not recommended to contact CEOP.
Then, Ms LaFave made a shocking revelation to the BBC that photos of her dead son were sent to his friends on-line.
Ms LaFave said: "He sent photos of Breck in that state to other boys.
"Those poor boys."
Ms LaFave has spoken out because she wants to change what the perception of on-line grooming is.
"We need more help from the govt and we have set up a foundation called "Play virtual, live real."
Both Surrey and Essex police forces are now facing a legal claim from Breck’s family and an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
Essex Police said: "There is a limited amount we can say because there is a civil action."
