EXCITING opportunities to work at the UK’s new deepwater container port attracted nearly 250 potential candidates to a Recruitment Fair held by DP World London Gateway.

The port continues to take an innovative approach in seeking out new members of the team – advertising the Recruitment Fair on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn and in a West Ham football match programme, as well as in more conventional outlets.

“The roles advertised for the Recruitment Fair were very specific – five engineering roles, eight IT roles and four operational roles,” said Danni Cripps, DP World London Gateway Human Capital Administrator. “These roles require specific skills and experience. But we also had attendees without this specific experience who were interested in finding out more about working at DP World London Gateway.”

Held in DP World London Gateway’s new head office, the all-day event attracted people from across the age range and from a variety of backgrounds and experience levels; most came from the surrounding area.

“We are committed to diversity in the workplace, as well as providing jobs for local people and building up the relevant skills in the local community,” said Danni Cripps. “The excellent turnout at the Recruitment Fair demonstrated that DP World London Gateway has captured the imagination of many who may never have considered working in a port before. “

Attendees were able to meet the IT and engineering teams and collect other general information about the port. ‘Mini interviews’ were carried out and CVs collected for further assessment.

“We have a lot of work to do sifting through the applicants,” said Danni Cripps. “We will be contacting those selected to take part in online assessments and tests and will then invite people back in for longer interviews.”

At present there are a total of 43 vacancies in 21 different roles across DP World London Gateway. The range of opportunities is immense, including roles in IT, engineering, finance, commercial, managerial and operations.

“The key message is – please do still send in your CV even if you couldn’t make it to the Recruitment Fair,” she said. “We would particularly like to hear from people with experience in IT and electrical/mechanical engineering. However, recruitment will be ongoing as we expand. We are looking ahead to the opening of our third berth and planning for a huge amount of expansion in 2015, so we are already planning our recruitment for the future.”
