A THURROCK primary school and the council’s careers team are working together to create an understanding of the world of work with young children.
Thurrock’s careers team has worked with Thameside Primary School in Manor Road, Grays, to develop an exciting introduction to careers education for children in Year 5.
Ninety children took part in career sessions led by the award-winning team’s adviser Jemma Paprota. The sessions were aimed at raising aspirations and helping children understand about the world of work as well as the opportunities Thurrock has to offer.
Head teacher, Christina Pumfrey said: “We feel very privileged to have been chosen as the pilot school for this exciting project.
“It is never too early to begin careers education and to help children set their sights high.”
And Cllr John Kent, Council Leader and portfolio holder for education, added: “We have been saying that rising aspirations and raising education outcomes sit side by side with making sure Thurrock-educated people can secure the top jobs being generated here in years to come.
“The sooner we can get children excited about the world of work and the possibilities that are out there waiting for them in this borough the better.”
The pupils enjoyed the programme, taking part in creative and fun lessons.
Ninety-five per cent of them felt they found the sessions useful and 79 per cent said they now knew more about the world of work.
