    Aveley 0 v 3 Brightlingsea Regent

REGENT eased to a Ryman North victory with three first half goals against an Aveley team who really didn’t offer anything and whose bad day was compounded late in the game when Sammy Knott was controversially sent off.

From the start Brightlingsea were on top and in control of the game and, after they had spurned several chances, it was no surprise on 13 minutes when Ben Hewson got on the end of Ricky Griggs’ long ball and volleyed a sublime finish past James Marrable.

Aveley did have the ball in the net when Tyler Devlin headed home but his effort was ruled out for a push. They also had appeals for a penalty waved away.

Millers went 2-0 down on 31 minutes when Phil Kelly skipped past Billy Sendall’s challenge and rolled the ball into the bottom corner.

Regent put the game to bed with five minutes remaining of the first half with a spectacular finish from Oliver Canfer.

Millers made three changes at half time and looked better after the break but they were unable to get back into the game and things ended badly when Knott was adjudged to have made a poor challenge on Kelly and was shown a red card for serious foul play despite pleases from Regent players who said the ref had got it wrong.
