THE LABOUR candidate for South Basildon and East Thurrock, Mike Le-Surf has questioned whether Kerry Smith can remain as an Essex County Councillor and a Basildon District Councillor.
Mr Le-Surf made the comments after Mr Smith had stood down as a contender for next years general election after making a series of racist and homophobic remarks.
Mr Le-Surf said: "On Sunday, Ukip had tried to ride the storm and made the ridiculous claim that Mr. Smith’s racist, sexist and homophobic rants were caused by his medication.
The decision to resign as parliamentary candidate was clearly forced on Mr. Smith but he still remains the leader of the Ukip group on Basildon Council and an Essex county councillor, so we wait to see what further decisions the party make.
Ukip candidates are being exposed at every turn and regardless of who is selected in South Basildon and East Thurrock, the spotlight will remain on this party of hatred, fear and division."
