Thurrock 20 v 23 Barking
THURROCK must still be wondering how they ever lost this game, some supporters still believe the game was taken away from them, Barking managed to score 8 points in injury time that amounted to 13 minutes for no specific major stoppage in the whole of the game.
The visitors started the better side and from a catch and drive went over to open the scoring with an unconverted try. Hagen Mumba kicked a penalty for the home side but Barking soon went further ahead with almost a carbon copy of their first score, however this time the try was converted.
Mumba with another penalty kept Thurrock in touch and during the last 10 minutes of the half, the Thurrock scrum began to dominate the set piece and started to look dangerous and right on the stroke of the half time whistle a fine break by Jake Barrand see him stopped just short of the line but the ball was recycled quickly and Ross Noakes went over to score, and Mumba’s conversion put Thurrock ahead for the first time at 13-12
Barking clawed a penalty back soon after the restart but Thurrock did not stay behind for long as a fine cross field kick was caught perfectly by Jake Barrand to score to the left of the posts, Mumba added the conversion to see Thurrock lead 20-15.
The game continued to be a tight affair and then in injury time it looked as Thurrock would be able to hold out. But a harsh yellow card gave Barking a lift and because of an earlier injury to prop Kealan Henry and yellow card of Reece Levy meant the game went into uncontested scrums 5 minutes into stoppage Barking made the one man advantage with a try to draw level, the conversion went wide and the game seem to have ended in a draw, but the referee continued to play and play and play and one last chance with a drop goal attempt it went straight between the post the referee then blew for full time, with Barking players ecstatic and Thurrock shell shocked.
