A UKIP councillor for Stanford and Corringham has pledged to continue to work for his local residents.
Cllr Roy Jones made the pledge in the aftermath of the Kerry Smith controversies when a leaked taped conversation between cllr Smith and others unknown (at present) contained a number of racist and homophobic remarks by cllr Smith.
However, cllr Jones, whose ward is in the South Basildon and East Thurrock constituency has told YT that he will continue as normal.
Cllr Jones said: "I was only elected in May and I only got into local politics because wanted to deal with local issues for local people.
"The whole business with Kerry has been disappointing. I cannot deny that. Yes, I have wondered why a three-year-old telephone conversation has suddenly seen the light of day but there we are.
"I will continue to hold my ward surgeries. I will continue to deal with the issues such as housing, roads, anti-social behaviour and access to amenities that face the people of Stanford and Corringham."
