LANGDON Hills Country Park held their annual festive event “Santa in the Woods” over two weekends in December (on 6th, 7th, 13th & 14th December). This year’s theme was The Wizard of Oz.
The event has been running for nearly 20 years. Tickets are limited to 1,000 children, and this year these all sold out in October. Tickets went on sale through Thameside Theatre.
The event took place at the Westley Heights site, and included a pantomime walk led by Dorothy, an event marquee with festive refreshments and woodland crafts, and Santa’s grotto. Between them the 1,000 children defeated the Wicked Witch and helped Dorothy to get back to Kansas.
The event was run by Thurrock Council Ranger Service and the Friends of Langdon Hills Country Park.
The Mayor of Thurrock attended on Sunday 7th December.
The Ranger Service also hosted a study day on 10th December for CMA (Countryside Management Association – countrysidemanagement.org.uk/), to share tips on running festive events with countryside staff working on other sites across the country.
For those who missed out this year, next year’s Santa in the Woods tickets will go on sale in early October!
