THIS year’s pantomime, Sleeping Beauty was a huge success with approximately 1343 children from across Thurrock attending.
First and second year BTEC Performing Arts students performed in this ensemble production. As well as learning their lines they also had the huge responsibility of producing the set, organising costumes, props, lighting and sound as well as suggesting choreographic ideas, keeping to budget, selling tickets and refreshments.
They also liaised with schools to arrange bookings and were responsible for looking after all the children during their visit to Palmer’s College.
The students gave 13 performances in total. Two were to the public, one to cubs and scouts and 10 to primary schools from around Thurrock. In total around 1080 children from nine different schools came to see the show and the cubs night and public performances were sell outs with 217 every night.
Sarah Waterman, Curriculum Manager for Drama said: “We have had lots of lovely feedback letters already from the children who saw the show and this was an invaluable vocational as well as enriching experience for our students.”
Mark Vinall, Principal of Palmer’s College said: “This year’s pantomime was a real triumph and an absolute delight for all who were lucky enough to see it”.
