ESSEX Police were called to Asda in Thurrock Park Way at Tilbury shortly before 10.20pm yesterday (Sun Jan 4th) following reports that a burglary was in progress.
Officers attended and a search of the area was carried out but no trace of the suspects was found. At least three men are believed to have forced entry to the store via a fire exit.
The shop was closed but staff were inside at the time. The suspects, who all had their faces covered, then went to the tills and forced them open with crow bars before taking any cash they contained.
The men then left the way they had entered. One of the men was wearing a black top, dark trousers with white patches on, white trainers and red gloves. A second suspect was wearing a dark top, black trousers with a white belt, black shoes and red gloves.
The third man was carrying a navy blue large builders bag and was dressed all in black. It is believed the suspects got into a nearby vehicle which then left the store at speed.
Anyone who saw any suspicious behaviour in the area, either before or after, the break-in is asked to call Grays CID on 101 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
