Rugby: Ruislip 24 v 5 Thurrock
THURROCK started the new year with a visit to West London, but came away with nothing to show but further injuries to an already depleted squad, the first half started well for the visitors as Thurrock dominated from the kick off and within the first five minutes created a space for a try scored by Jake Barrand to go over wide out, Hagen Mumba conversion attempt went just wide.
However in the very wet conditions with the pitch covered in quite a few puddles and in the build up to the try Kealan Henry had to leave the field with a twisted ankle, things went from bad to worse has scrum half Alex Jones was yellow carded for being offside then Hagen Mumba pulled up a thigh muscle injury, then Marcus Spremulli had a bash on the knee, 19 minutes gone 3 players already off the field, and during that period Thurrock conceded two tries one of which was converted to lead 12-5 and the game became strewn with errors has the half came to a close.
Thurrock despite the changes looked controlled and spent most of the early part of the second pinned in the Ruislip half, and Thurrock missed an early penalty but looked to have closed the gap in the score line when Dritan Loka stretched over to score, but to the whole of the amazement of the Thurrock supporters the referee was in the wrong place to see it a Ruislip player kick the ball and the ref just played on.
This proved to be the turning point Ruislip managed to score another unconverted try against the run of play. With game entering deep into injury time and darkness the home side capitalised on a Thurrock mistake as they tried to run from deep in the own half to snatch a losing bonus point but spilled the ball and Ruislip were gifted with a fourth try and more importantly from their perspective a bonus point
Thurrock are at on 10th January when they entertain CHINGFORD hopefully with some players back, after a busy week in the physio room
