THURROCK arrived at Burroughs Park for Saturday’s Ryman North clash with a very depleted squad with Mark Stimson naming just three substitutes, all stepping up from the reserve squad and he faces further selection issues as Ross Wall and Abs Thompson were sent off.

With the wind gusting to near gale force at their backs Thurrock set about business and took the lead with barely two minutes on the clock. Lamar Reynolds’ shot from the left wing was blocked out for a corner. Brad Warner played a short ball to Thomson whose low cross was met first time by Lewwis Spence and placed into the corner of the net.

Thurrock spurned a number of chances to extend the lead but they were only able to take a one goal advantage into the break.

Ross Wall had the ball in the Wakering net early in the second half but it was ruled out as the ball had gone out of play in the build-up and his afternoon’s action ended just after the hour when he reacted angrily to a challenge and was shown a red card.

Despite being one man down Thurrock were able to contain Great Wakering although chances were far fewer now, the best falling to Lamar Reynolds who was just beaten to the ball after a neat pass from Thomson.

Great Wakering got their equaliser with five minutes to go when a corner from wasn’t cleared and Jay Nash scrambled the bal in.

Thurrock responded immediately, Remi Sutton brought the ball down the left wing and passed to Lamar Reynolds on the D with his back to goal and he slotted the ball into the channel for Kweku Ansah to run onto and chip Adam Seal for his début first team goal.

The game was in time added on when Abs Thomson and Lewis Sparrow clashed. In the ensuing altercation Thomson and Wakering’s Billy Radley were both shown red cards.

With 97 minutes on the clock Wakering’s Eljay Worrell scored with what turned out to be the last kick of the game.
