Rugby: Eton rifle through depleted Thurrock

Eton Manor 24 v 5 Thurrock

THURROCK’S depleted squad travelled to Bancroft after Eton Manor’s home pitch was unplayable due to waterlogging, and again made the second in the league Eton Manor fight all the way to record victory only claiming a bonus point try 3 minutes into added time.

The home side went into a 14-0 lead which they held to half time and Thurrock despite having some good possession could not force a try scoring opportunity, also lost Tom Worsfold on the half hour mark and Dan Carey at the break through injury.

But they made light of the changes as they broke their duck 5 minutes into the second half when a good work from the backs and a fine interchange between Freddie Russo and Marcus Spremulli gave the later the chance to touch down, Jake Barrand was wide with the conversion. The game not helped by the heavy conditions was a rather scrappy affair and when the referee lost patience for a number of penalties given away by Thurrock Dritan Loka was given a yellow and whilst down to 14 Thurrock were made to pay as Manor scored from a 5 metre line with a catch and drive to lead 19-5

Thurrock kept up to their task although spend most of the last quarter defending but it must be said they defended heroically until the pressure told and conceded a fourth try late in the game.

Thurrock have a week off with their next game scheduled for SATURDAY 31ST JANUARY when they entertain BRENTWOOD (kick off 3pm) and their chances will be boosted by the return of several high profile players
