Witnesses sought after police officer struck by car on A13

POLICE have appealed for witnesses after an officer was injured when his motorbike was struck by a car he had tried to stop on the A13 near Aveley.

The incident happened at about 2pm on Tuesday January 27 when the officer, from the Essex Police motorcycle unit, had flagged down a BMW car suspected of speeding.

He was leading the car up a slip road off the A13 at Ferry Lane, Rainham, when the vehicle struck the rear of the motorbike. The officer was thrown to the ground on the Ferry Lane roundabout into the path of a vehicle which braked hard to avoid him.
