Grays teenager, Martin Galbraith to appear in court after police officer struck down by car

A TEENAGER from Grays will appear at Basildon Magistrates Court today charged with a number of offences following an incident on the A13 where a police officer was injured.

The officer from the Essex Police motorcycle unit was struck after he tried to flag down a BMW car suspected of speeding. This was at around 2pm on Tuesday, January 27.

He was leading the car up a slip road off the A13 at Ferry Lane, Rainham, when the vehicle collided the rear of the motorbike. The officer was thrown to the ground on the Ferry Lane roundabout into the path of a vehicle which braked hard to avoid him.

The BMW drove away but struck a wall near the roundabout.

Martin Galbraith, 18, who is unemployed and from Boscombe Avenue in Grays, has been charged with GBH with intent, dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and no insurance. He remains in custody until his appearance in court.
