BRITAIN’S most famous female vicar makes an appearance at the Thameside theatre this February and you’d be forgiven for thinking that it is indeed Dawn French on stage in Grays. In fact theatre staff have had to tell quite a few people already that the face on show posters in the booking office is NOT the real Dawn! Make your own mind up and look at her picture with this article and you can see what the fuss is all about!
Of course, regular followers of Thurrock Courts Players productions will recognise the face of talented local actress Jill Snelling as she leads the cast as an amazing lookalike in this hilarious stage adaptation of one of our best loved sitcoms, The Vicar of Dibley.
The show follows the arrival in Dibley of the replacement vicar Geraldine Granger, to the great surprise of the locals who struggle at first to adapt to a female vicar. Not balding but buxom, and with a picture of Mel Gibson hanging next to Jesus, Geraldine soon wins their hearts with her kindness and humour. The script has been officially professionally compiled from the actual TV scripts for stage production and Courts have been given permission to perform it at the Thameside.
Along with other Courts regular names, Vic Gray (David Horton), Wayne Prince (Hugo Horton), Mike Jones (Owen Newitt), Dave Carey (Jim Trott), Harry Doyle (Frank Pickles), Lisa Chapman (Mrs Cropley) and newcomer to the group Louise Alsop (Alice Tinker), Jill’s flawless reputation guarantees to enthrall audiences with her portrayal of this iconic character.
Bringing together many of your favourite TV series moments, from Geraldine’s unexpected arrival to Alice and Hugo’s unforgettable wedding day, this promises to be another fantastic evening’s entertainment from Thurrock Courts Players. The show is already proving a hit and has now added a matinee performance on Saturday 14 February at 2.15pm.
The Vicar of Dibley is at the Thameside Theatre, Grays from 12-14 February at 7.45pm and 2.15pm on Saturday 14th. Tickets are £12 adults and £10 concessions, available from 07475 634 474 or book online at thurrock.gov.uk/theatre
